CATALOGUE RAISONNÉ 1983-87
Carl Mehrbach purchased his first home and property in Needham, Massachusetts. This ownership allowed Mehrbach to design the interior of his art studio, including his work wall and his lighting equipment. A great period of transition ensued; the use of artificial light allowed Mehrbach to work night and day. This is a robust and energetic five year period. Out from underneath Philip Guston's tutelage he came, moving quickly from Guston-influenced-figurative-work, to a new style of three-dimensional abstraction, which is purely Mehrbach.
