In this period Carl Mehrbach further explored representation and figurative art. These years are transitional, replete with search and renewal. Mehrbach continued to be an educator until June 2010. Consequently, these years anticipate Mehrbach becoming a full-time art-maker. Mehrbach worked hard to diminish the profound influence of his mentor, Philip Guston. Looking back, he believes the work from this period is too serious. There was less humor here than his earlier periods, perhaps this is a result of Mehrbach's dedication to separating from Guston's influence.
